With the INDEPENDENT platform, pilots will aggregate an estimated total of 1,4 MWh flexibility capacity from various buildings and sites with heterogenous energy management systems and multiple vendors and connect to several energy wholesale, TSO, and DSO flexibility markets.
Helsinki & Oulu, Finland
Apartment building & supermarket HVAC systems
In the first phase, Customer Energy Manager Systems will be developed and deployed into an apartment building owned by HOAS and a supermarket owned by S-Group. In the second phase, the CEMS will be replicated into new types of buildings.
The Finnish pilot is operated by project partners Caverion and Volue with support from VTT and will explore explicit Demand Response in multi-market settings.
Celje Region, Slovenia
Residential & industrial buildings
The Slovenian pilot will develop and test Customer Energy Manager Systems supporting flexibility aggregation in households and industrial sites. As the project progresses, the systems will be completed and qualified.
Pilot leads are ECE and Elektro Celje with support from AMIBIT and Institut “Jožef Stefan”. Several business models are explored from self-optimisation to congestion management, TSO-DSO cooperation and market participation.
Bavaria, Germany
Glass manufacturer & households
The German pilot will focus on aggregating flexibility from the industrial site Irlbacher Blickpunkt Glas and later also include households. The flexibility is utilised for various purposes with particular focus on the new German legislation on provision of dynamic tariffs.
The pilot is managed by Consolinno and fortiss with support from Bosch.
Sweden
Single-family houses
The Swedish pilot will aggregate energy resources such as batteries, solar panels, heat pumps and EV chargers in single-family houses. The aggregated flexibility is targeted several markets such as TSO ancillary markets (FCR-D, FCR-N, aFRR, mFRR) and local flexibility markets. Behind-the-meter optimisation services are also explored.
The pilot is led by CheckWatt, with support from NIBE.
